[it's a good deal later when he finally gets around to answering, visibly exhausted and hair still a bit wavy from air-dried salt water, but at least he answers.]
I'm alright, Saber. Everyone's okay, more or less.
[but at least it drags a little smirk out of him. who's he to question the impossible stuff some people here can do? it helps him, and that's all that matters right now.]
You missed all the excitement, though. The sea monster is very much dead now, and none of us drowned.
I apologize that I was not present to slay the sea monster quickly.
[She starts running across the water, though the lack of focal background points makes it hard to tell exactly how fast she is going other than the way her hair whips about her face, her eyes not on the locket.]
[that's possibly the most endearing apology he's ever received.]
Reynard was waiting for us there. He let himself be taken prisoner and locked in a cell, but everyone knew there was no chance of that cell holding him if he didn't want to be there. We tried to keep him oblivious and quiet for a few days until everyone had gotten there, but he somehow heard of my arrival after only two days and broke out ahead of schedule. Alice, Eren, and Grell had come with Tzilan and I, and only John Grimm and the Brucolac had arrived by that point.
Reynard gathered us all up to negotiate for the bones of Alyosha's kin. But it was just a ploy to get us all together. Tzilan found Reynard's daughter sneaking around Redgate and discovered that the bones had already been stolen, but Reynard managed to teleport us all away before he could do anything about it.
[a brief, considerate pause, and he words the next bit carefully.]
The Fox can't hurt me or anyone I call my companions, because of a trick I pulled on him the first month I was here. So he found a loophole -- dropped us into the middle of the ocean before a raging sea serpent. Technically, he didn't harm any of us himself.
But Eren defeated it, and a ship the serpent had been attacking at the time took us in. We' all survived Reynard's plan, miraculously enough.
What significance do those bones have and can you describe the Fox's daughter to me?
[She's trying to mull over how Eren could defeat a sea serpent. She knew him and he could barely fight off her imps. But other things were more important.
I don't know what the bones can do, or what plans he has for them, but I doubt it's anything good. The daughter, at least, should be easily recognizable if you've ever seen the Fox. She looks just like him -- red hair, very pale, very pointy.
[eren's trick, at least, he won't go into detail about until he's spoken to the boy himself. it's impressive, but apparently not something he tells many people about.
her guess as to his own tricks, however, only gets a raised eyebrow. that isn't a word he's familiar with.]
[Kiritsugu was a master at it, self-geasing himself so he couldn't harm another Master and that Master's wife, only to have Maiya kill them after the deal was done.]
Just in case you ever intend on using such magic against me, I possess a Magic Resistance of a high enough rank that a spoken geas is not strong enough to affect me. Most magic cannot affect me.
You say that, yet I am not entirely certain you speak truthfully when you call me a friend. Some day I would like to not have my gut warning me that your honeyed tongue sings at me as well as others.
[he really should be offended by that insinuation -- or at least pretend to be -- but instead, his eyebrows just raise again and he watches he for a moment, thoughtful.]
We're allies, at least, and I value those who have been loyal and useful. Is that good enough for you?
Though allow me to remind you that allies make the most of each others' resources, experiences, and communication. An ally should be trusted to watch one's back. That is hard to do when you don't know what to be on guard for.
You have sown seeds in Troichean Beinn. I could feel it. If you have painted a target upon you for someone other than the Fox, I would like to know who and why, so that I may maneuver best to see that you continue to stand as Lord of Redgate.
And in exchange I will offer something only a select few know. I am a king, Saralegui. My reign is one of legend in my world, where I am known as the King of Knights and, in more modern times, the Once and Future King as many believe I will one day return to my throne.
I did arrange some things in Troichean Beinn, as a favor owed. But you have no need to worry about that. I took a number of precautions to ensure that no blame can be directed at me -- including painting a target on someone else.
[if he sounds more than a little self-satisfied, well..he absolutely is.
and whatever reaction she was expecting to that, she probably isn't getting it, for better or worse. his head cants a little, decently surprised but more intrigued, and very much appreciative.]
As for the secrecy... it is complicated. Back in my world, I participate in a magi war called the Holy Grail War. As one of the heroic spirits summoned to fight in it, for my enemies to know my true identity gives them advantage over me as out legends tell of both our strengths and weaknesses.
Even though the Holy Grail War is not happening here, there are many shardbearers that would know of my legend. [Yes, hers is that prolific.] It is better that they do not know I walk amongst them.
A native to this world, unaffiliated with either side. I wouldn't want to adversely affect the situation between Troichean Beinn and the courts, after all. And I promise, he deserves it.
[but that's all he'll give right now. enough to ease any possible concerns, but not enough to potentially ruin anything should her doubts about him win out. besides, she may hear with the rest of the world soon enough.]
[The way Saralegui said that brought Red to mind, but she decided not to push for more details. Yet.]
It is the name of my class. I am a Saber Class Servant. It is common for heroic spirits to adopt the name of their class in place of their true identity during the War.

I am enroute.
[Though there's no... boat evident anywhere.]

Already? How?

[She kind of... missed the point of that question.]

Tell me what happened at Redgate.

And then...]
You placed a geas upon him.

I gave him a command, if that's what you mean.
no subject
An inviolable command enforced through magic, set to specific wording, correct?
no subject
The wording doesn't actually matter, though it can help. Words aren't even necessary at times, just intent. But otherwise, yes.

[It's good to be of the Saber Class.]

[at least he has decency to adopted a somewhat insulted expression. and then his lips purse a little, and he shrugs.]
Besides, I don't like relying on it. It's less satisfying, and less fun.
[usually. mindfucking reynard had certainly been fun.]
