[that's possibly the most endearing apology he's ever received.]
Reynard was waiting for us there. He let himself be taken prisoner and locked in a cell, but everyone knew there was no chance of that cell holding him if he didn't want to be there. We tried to keep him oblivious and quiet for a few days until everyone had gotten there, but he somehow heard of my arrival after only two days and broke out ahead of schedule. Alice, Eren, and Grell had come with Tzilan and I, and only John Grimm and the Brucolac had arrived by that point.
Reynard gathered us all up to negotiate for the bones of Alyosha's kin. But it was just a ploy to get us all together. Tzilan found Reynard's daughter sneaking around Redgate and discovered that the bones had already been stolen, but Reynard managed to teleport us all away before he could do anything about it.
[a brief, considerate pause, and he words the next bit carefully.]
The Fox can't hurt me or anyone I call my companions, because of a trick I pulled on him the first month I was here. So he found a loophole -- dropped us into the middle of the ocean before a raging sea serpent. Technically, he didn't harm any of us himself.
But Eren defeated it, and a ship the serpent had been attacking at the time took us in. We' all survived Reynard's plan, miraculously enough.
